RIA & TRC25 support Loughborough University’s Coach & Volunteer Academy (CVA) for a second year

Following a highly successful pilot partnership in 2024, Running Industry Alliance and The Running Conference presented by haku (TRC25) will once again support Loughborough University’s Coach & Volunteer Academy (CVA) this December.

The collaboration will see Loughborough University students from the CVA play an integral role in the delivery of The Running Conference 2025, taking place from 7th to 9th December at the university.

The initiative was first launched at TRC24 as part of Running Industry Alliance’s (RIA) commitment to education, opportunity, and collaboration, providing students with valuable hands-on experience at one of the UK’s leading sport and business events while aiming to help towards future-proofing the industry.

The 2024 pilot was a resounding success, with students gaining insight into a high profile running and triathlon business to business (B2B) conference, while also experiencing direct interaction with senior leaders, brands, and organisations from across the global running and triathlon industries.

Becs Richardson, CEO of Running Industry Alliance (RIA), said:
“We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with the Coach & Volunteer Academy (CVA) at Loughborough University. The students were absolutely fantastic last year - professional, enthusiastic, and a real credit to the university. Supporting the next generation of sports professionals is a huge part of what we stand for at RIA, and working with the CVA team is a brilliant way to bring that to life".

The CVA supports Loughborough students to gain meaningful, career-relevant experience within sport, physical activity, including event environments, training the sports industry workforce of the future. 110,000 hours of volunteering have been completed in 2024-25. Students volunteering at The Running Conference gain a unique opportunity to apply their learning in a professional setting, build networks within the sports industry, and contribute to an internationally recognised event.

Andy Motch, Partnership Development Manager from Loughborough University, commented:

“We’re delighted to be working with RIA and The Running Conference again this year. The feedback from students who took part last year was overwhelmingly positive - it gave them real insight into how large-scale industry events are planned and delivered, and many of them have since gone on to further opportunities in the sport and events sector.”

Taking place at Loughborough University and Burleigh Court, TRC25 is the fourth edition of the flagship annual industry gathering for RIA Members. The event brings together over 400 business leaders, brands, retailers, events, and organisations from across running, triathlon, and endurance sport for three days of connection, collaboration, and future-facing discussion.
